Uranus: Breaking Free

Uranus fosters the development of the unique individuality. It is the modern outer planet that rules Aquarius, the sign that inspires in us our own individual freedom. One way to attain this is to learn how we can de-condition ourselves from our known past. How do we break free from our parent’s values, our culture and education which have all contributed and shaped us into who we are today? Uranus helps us to find our authentic individuality and it rules in Aquarius (it’s home sign) with mental clarity, thought and by thinking outside of the box or norm.

In this work the people are “finding” themselves, stripped of their usual clothes. They are literally breaking free into their unique self-expression. They look ecstatic and liberated.

Uranus as a thinking or mental planet has often been likened to the genius archetype. Light-bulbs can suddenly go off as a unique idea strikes the person out of “no-where.” These light-bulb moments are here expressed (un-intentionally) through the floating circles, which in fact contain an ancient labyrinth symbol. This could express being stuck in an old way of looking at a situation or problem, only to break through to a new code or solution.

Sudden break-throughs, unexpected quick turn of events, breaking free from authority, following your own inner purpose, finding your authenticity and allowing yourself to be guided by it, are some of the hall-marks of Uranus. It is often understood as the planet of awakening.

The electrifying quality we can experience with Uranus is visible in the black connecting grid lines underlying the composition of this work. In its totality it has a frenetic quality, another characteristic of a restless, erratic Uranus. The various planes express the underlying shifting of consciousness. Uranus is future orientated, awakening us to new potentialities and our own individual evolutionary path.
